Opening the verse
فَقَالَ إِنِّىٓ أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ ٱلْخَيْرِ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّى حَتَّىٰ تَوَارَتْ بِٱلْحِجَابِ
And he said, "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until it [i.e., the sun] disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]."
Scholars differ
Scholars explain this passage differently: some say Sulayman slaughtered the horses for Allah after they distracted him from remembrance; others that he stroked their legs and necks with affection. The "body" placed on his throne (38:34) is also explained in different ways.
